Elizabeth Slone is a Licensed Massage Therapist, in Lexington, Kentucky, where she attended Lexington Healing Arts Academy for her education in massage. She was licensed in 2004 and has been practicing since 2001. She specializes in Trigger Point Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, Orthopedic Massage and Scar Tissue and Adhesion Release.

Trigger Point Therapy is a treatment using deep pressure, on the trigger point, and massaging the point to allow natural blood circulation to occur in that area. What is a Trigger Point? That is that tight knot or "wad" of muscle fiber you feel when you go to rub a painful area in your neck, in your shoulder area or another part of the body. It is when the muscle fibers are contracted and stay that way for too long of a period, resulting in oxygen starvation in the tissue, due to the lack of blood circulation in that particular area. A trigger point can be painful with or without touch and can send pain else where in the body. It causes limit range of motion and if not treated it can lead to causing numbness and tingly feeling in the extremities, such as Sciatica can cause in the legs and feet, when not treated. Massage helps break up the lactic acid within the trigger point and allows the blood to circulate, providing oxygen to the area again once again.

Cranial-sacral Therapy is a form of bodywork in which light touch is used to address the bones of the cranium, spinal column and sacrum.. The goal is to release compression in those areas which alleviates stress and pain. This technique has been know to help with Fibromyalgia, sleep difficulties, migraines and Post Viral Syndrome. Craniosacral therapy can be particularly beneficial for people with chronic fatigue conditions because it works gently to build up health and vitality and enables deep rest and recovery.

Neuromuscular Therapy is a form of massage that uses the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. This technique manipulates the connective tissue of the body such as muscles and tendons to help balance the central nervous system. Neuromuscular Therapy is used to address 5 elements that cause pain: 1. Ischemia - Lack of blood supply to soft tissues which cause pain in that area. 2. Trigger Points - A tight knot of muscle fibers that cause pain in the area and also refer pain to other parts of the body. 3. Nerve Entrapment - Pressure on the nerve by the tight muscle tissue, cartilage or bone. 4. Postural Distortion - the imbalance of the muscular system resulting from the movement of the body being out of alignment. 5. Biomechanical Dysfunction - An imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty body movement patterns such as improper lifting, sitting at a computer and bad mechanics in sport related activities.

Orthopedic Massage is a type of massage that focuses on treating painful conditions, which affect the soft tissues, by using a range of techniques to treat these conditions. A thereapist who performs orthopedic massage will release tight muscles, help to stretch shortened muscles and tendons and decompress joints.

Scar Tissue and Adhesion Release (STAR) is a massage technique that helps to break up scar tissue and adhesion that have formed due to trauma from injury or surgery. Scar tissue is the fibrous connective tissue which forms the scar resulting in limiting range of motion, circulation and sensation.

Adhesion are the fibrous bands of scar tissue that form between the internal organs and tissues joining them together abnormally. As a result complex inflammatory disorders can arise causing pain and dysfunction and many times surgery is required to remove the scar tissue and adhesion. This type of massage can reduce the development of scar tissue and adhesion and help to avoid surgery.

I have had experience in working on clients with STAR from all kinds of surgeries including augmentations, open heart, shoulder and knee and back.
